Penny Lloyd, Professional Officer, British Association of Social Workers
I write on behalf of the members of the British Association of Social Workers, to say how
sorry we are to hear of Peter's death.
We are proud of the fact that Wales led the way in creating the post of
Children's Commissioner, and additionally proud of the way in which Peter
carried out that role. He always listened well to everyone or 'actively'
as the social work jargon describes it . It wasn't that he just served children
and young people well - he tried to behave in a respectful and understanding way
to all people and made sure that you listened to him . His presence at meetings
was the same , whether talking to children and young people or Ministers - you knew
he passionately cared about children's rights, and that being the Children's
Commissioner for Wales was more than just a job. Truly a social work hero.
